Stonewall Estates Wedding in Lincoln, Ontario

couple exiting the ceremony under the arbour at stonewall estates

Stonewall Estates is a family-owned winery and working farm in Lincoln, Ontario, on a 120-acre estate with vineyards, orchards, hop fields, forest trails and views of 16 Mile Creek. The wedding setup centres on two century-old barns with hand-hewn post and beam frames, and they're heated and air-conditioned, so the party works in any season. If you want a Niagara wedding that feels like a farm party and not a hotel ballroom, this is the place.

Alexandra & Taylor's Stonewall Estates Wedding

Alexandra and Taylor's wedding was August 16th, and the three words they gave me for themselves were fun, social and relaxed. That's how the day was built: about 175 guests, the barn, twinkle lights and a live band.

Alexandra and I actually crossed paths before she ever inquired. We'd connected at a social media event where she was speaking to a group of photographers, and then she found me on Instagram by chance. I love when that happens.

They said their vows at the hemlock arbour overlooking 16 Mile Creek, which is the ceremony site Stonewall is known for.

Later, the sunset portraits were one of my favourite parts of the day. The light at Stonewall in August is soft and golden over the vines and the creek, and the two of them slowed down for a few minutes away from the party.

Then came the dance floor, and it was epic. Their first dance was to Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton, and from there the live band had the whole barn moving. Guests stayed on the floor all night, which is exactly what you hope for when your brief is fun, social and relaxed.

Photo Spots at Stonewall Estates

Everything is on one property, which makes a timeline much easier. These are the spots I'd plan around:

The Barns. Original 1800s timber frames, over 30 feet high, with classic red roofs. Great for details, receptions and anything involving string lights.

The Arbour. The hemlock arbour overlooks 16 Mile Creek and is where Alexandra and Taylor said their vows. It comes with a live edge signing table, and the view changes with the seasons.

The Dock. Water, wine and a view of the creek. Good for quiet couple portraits.

The Orchard. A short walk from the main barn, soft and green, and easy to fit into a cocktail hour.

The Vineyard. Rows of vines you pass on the drive in. This is where I'd go at golden hour.

The Bridal Cottage. Whitewashed pine walls, original floors and a crystal chandelier. A calm place for getting ready or a mid-day reset.

Stonewall requires an event planner to coordinate with their vendors, so factor that into your planning early. They also include a DJ, a four-course dinner with their chef and seven hours of bar service in the wedding package, and wine is chosen from the winery. Meet Em, Stonewall Estates' Day-of Coordinator

One of my favourite things about shooting at Stonewall Estates is Em. She's the venue's day-of coordinator and works onsite with every couple who books there, so she knows the property, the barns and the flow of the day inside out. It's a big reason a Stonewall timeline runs so smoothly. Having someone on the ground who knows the venue makes everything easier for photographers, vendors and couples, and she's amazing to work with.

You can follow her at @em_stonewallestates on Instagram.

More About Amare Studios

I'm Anika, the photographer and creative director behind Amare Studios. My style is documentary at heart with an editorial eye for light. I don't pose you into something that feels foreign, I create the conditions for real moments to happen, and then I catch them.
