The Henley Room Wedding in Toronto, Ontario

Written by Anika Kitchen, Ontario Wedding Photographer

The Henley Room sits right on the water at the Argonaut Rowing Club, and it's one of the few venues in Toronto where you get an actual waterfront terrace without leaving the city. High coffered ceilings, a stone fireplace, a retro bar that looks like it was built for photos, and a dock just steps from the reception that catches the best light in the city come sunset. We're proud preferred vendors here now, which means we get to shoot this space often, and it never stops being one of our favourites.

Chloe & Justin

Chloe and Justin met as PhD students working in the same lab, which tells you a lot about the two of them before you even meet them, unserious, affectionate, supportive of each other in the specific way people are when they've spent years in the trenches together. Their August wedding at The Henley Room leaned all the way into that, romantic but relaxed, colourful pastel wildflowers, string lights, that retro bar doing exactly what they'd hoped as a backdrop for photos.

We started the day with a first look, just the two of them, before the property filled up with 70 guests. Chloe and Justin wanted documentary storytelling over posed portraits, shot partly on film and partly on Super 8, so a lot of our afternoon was just staying close and letting things happen, the wedding party goofing around at that retro bar, guests catching up by the fireplace. After the ceremony we brought the full group up to the balcony overlooking the dock for one big shot looking down at everyone gathered below, then moved through family portraits and wedding party photos right on the dock itself.

Dinner brought its own set of small moments, us moving table to table to catch people mid laugh, the bouquet and the reception florals getting their own quiet minute before the room filled in. Then around 8, right on cue, everyone made their way back out to the dock for sunset, that late-August light doing all the work over the water while Chloe and Justin stood there completely unbothered by the crowd around them. It's the kind of ending that photographs itself.

More About Amare Studios

I'm Anika, the photographer and creative director behind Amare Studios. Along with my team, I've spent nearly a decade photographing weddings across Ontario, and after hundreds of them (plus one of my own), I've learned exactly what makes a couple feel comfortable, seen, and genuinely themselves in front of a camera.

My style is documentary at heart with an editorial eye for light. I don't pose you into something that feels foreign, I create the conditions for real moments to happen, and then I catch them.

If that sounds like the kind of photographer and videographer you're looking for, stick around and say hello.
