Wedding Photography & Videography FAQs for Couples Planning in Ontario

Congratulations on your engagement. If you're here, you're probably in that sweet spot between excitement and overwhelm — trying to figure out who you want telling the story of one of the most important days of your life. We put this guide together to answer the questions we hear most, so you can go into your search feeling clear, confident, and ready.

Your Questions Answered

Getting Started

1. Who are Anika and Carson?

We're a husband and wife photo and video duo based in Southern Ontario, and we've been doing this together long enough to have a shorthand that shows up in the work. Anika leads photography. Carson leads video. Together we run Amare Studios — a team built around story-driven, documentary-style wedding coverage with a deep love for film, Super 8, and the kind of images that feel like something rather than just look like something. Meet us here.

2. How do I choose the right wedding photography and videography team?

Start with the work — watch full films, look at full galleries, not just highlight reels. Then get on a call. The best team for you is the one whose style you love and whose company you actually enjoy, because they're going to be with you for most of your wedding day. Book a discovery call — it's the fastest way to see if we're a fit.

3. What style do you specialise in?

Documentary and editorial — which means we shoot the day as it unfolds, with intention. We're not directing your guests or staging moments. We're watching for them. The result is a mix of candid, real, unposed images and film alongside beautifully composed portraits — all edited in the warm, cinematic aesthetic Amare is known for. See our photography portfolio.

4. Can you recommend candid and documentary wedding photographers in Ontario?

That's exactly what we do. If you want to see what a full documentary-style Amare gallery and film looks like, our portfolio is the best place to start.

Coverage & Logistics

5. How much coverage do we need?

All of our packages include full day coverage, so you don't have to worry about running out of time or cutting moments short. Most full day weddings run 8–10 hours from getting ready through to the reception. We'll help you build your timeline so everything flows naturally. See what's included in each package.

6. What happens if it rains?

We come prepared regardless. Most venues have a backup plan built in, and if yours doesn't we'll help you think through options ahead of time. Rain shots are often some of our favourites — we've never let weather get in the way of a great image.

7. How far in advance should we book?

12–18 months ahead is ideal, especially for summer and fall Saturdays. Sunday and weekday dates often have more availability 6–8 months out. If your date is coming up sooner, reach out anyway — it's always worth asking.

8. Does it matter if you've shot at our venue before?

It helps but it's never a requirement. We research every venue ahead of time — scouting angles, understanding the light, knowing where the best moments are likely to happen. By the time we arrive we've already done our homework.

9. Do you help with timeline planning?

Yes, and it's one of our favourite parts of the process. Every couple receives a timeline questionnaire about 8 weeks before the wedding. From there we build a personalised photo and video timeline that accounts for your day's flow, your vendor schedule, and the moments that matter most to you. Read more on our blog.

Photo & Video

10. What type of photography do you offer?

Story-driven documentary photography with an editorial eye — candid, real moments shot alongside beautifully composed portraits. We don't believe in choosing one or the other. You get both. Explore our photography portfolio.

11. What type of video coverage do you offer?

We offer cinematic digital video and nostalgic Super 8 film coverage — and the two can be beautifully blended together into a single film. Our Amare Video Collection and Storytellers Collection both include a 6–8 minute cinematic highlight film, a full ceremony and speeches edit, and a 1–2 minute teaser for sharing. Super 8 can be added à la carte to any package starting at $1,500 per roll. Watch our films on YouTube.See all collections.

12. Do you offer both photography and videography?

We do — and it's honestly our favourite way to work. When photo and video are captured by one team under the same creative direction, the result is something cohesive that neither medium could tell alone. Our Storytellers Collection is built exactly for this — full day photo and video coverage, shot and edited as one unified story. For couples curious about Super 8 film and how it weaves into your day, we'd love to tell you more on your discovery call.

13. Is it better to book photography and videography from the same studio?

Yes — and not just for convenience. When your photo and video team know each other, share a creative language, and have worked weddings together, the day feels more seamless and the final work reflects that. Less coordination overhead for you, better results for everyone. Learn more about how we work.

14. Will video interrupt our day or make it feel staged?

Never. Our video style is built around blending in — minimal gear, no direction, no interrupting moments to recreate them. You'll forget the camera is there, which is exactly when the best footage happens. Watch our films on YouTube.

15. Can video capture our story in a way photography alone can't?

Completely. Video gives you back the things a photograph can't hold — the sound of the vows, the laugh that came out of nowhere, the song that made the whole room feel something. It's a different kind of reliving. Watch a full highlight film on YouTube.

16. We're awkward in front of the camera — is that a problem?

Not even a little. We guide couples through everything naturally, and the engagement session that comes with your photography or combo package is specifically designed to help you feel comfortable before the wedding day. By the time your wedding comes around, you'll barely notice us. Read our tips on the blog.

Our Packages

17. What packages do you offer?

We have three core collections — full details and inclusions here.

  • The Amare Photography Collection at $4,700 — full day photography coverage, complimentary engagement session, 600+ edited images, sneak peeks within one week, wedding planning guide and timeline support, and access to our professional print shop.

  • The Amare Video Collection at $4,700 — full day videography coverage, 6–8 minute cinematic highlight film, full ceremony and speeches edit, 1–2 minute teaser for sharing, and personalised planning support.

  • The Storytellers Collection at $8,500 — our signature photo and video experience. Everything above, together, under one creative team. Full day coverage, complimentary engagement session, 600+ edited images, 6–8 minute highlight film, full ceremony and speeches edit, and 1–2 minute teaser.

18. What are typical costs for wedding photography and videography in Ontario?

Most full-day packages in Ontario range from $4,000–$6,000 for photography or videography alone, and $7,000–$10,000 for combined packages. Our collections start at $4,700 for standalone photo or video and $8,500 for the full photo and video experience. See our full pricing.

19. Can we add Super 8 film?

Yes — and we love it. Super 8 adds a warm, nostalgic, authentically filmic quality that digital video simply can't replicate. A single roll is $1,500 and includes a dedicated Super 8 shooter, approximately 2–3 minutes of final edited film, and seamless integration into your highlight. Additional rolls are $800 each. Watch a Super 8 film on YouTube.(Dedicated Super 8 page coming soon)

20. Do you offer 35mm film photography?

Yes, as an add-on. A single roll of 35mm colour film starts at $250 — the grain, tones, and texture of film add something genuinely different alongside digital. See examples in our portfolio.

21. Can we add a second photographer or videographer?

Absolutely. A full day second photographer or second videographer is $750 each. For larger weddings, multiple locations, or couples who want nothing missed, it's one of the best investments you can make. View all add-ons.

22. Do you offer engagement sessions?

Yes. Every photography and combo package includes a complimentary engagement session. If you'd like to book a standalone session, they're $650 — a relaxed 90-minute shoot designed to capture your connection naturally, with multiple locations and outfit changes if you'd like. Read more about engagement sessions on our blog.

Our Team

23. Will Anika and Carson be shooting our wedding?

Every Amare wedding is led and edited under Anika and Carson's creative direction — that's the constant regardless of date or package. For most weddings, one or both of us are there with you in person. When our calendar calls for it, we bring in a member of our trusted core team — photographers and videographers we've trained, shot alongside, and would trust with our own wedding day. You'll always know who your lead is before you sign, and we'll never send someone whose work we haven't personally stood behind. Meet the team.

24. How do you maintain consistency across your team?

Through hands-on training, shared style guidelines, and our post-production workflow. Every image and film that leaves Amare is edited by us — that's the final guarantee of consistency regardless of who was behind the camera. See our work.

25. What makes Amare different?

We're a husband and wife team who shoot weddings the way we'd want our own documented — candidly, intentionally, without interrupting the day to manufacture moments. We care about the people, the details, the feeling in the room. And we stay. We're not there to check boxes and leave — we're there until the story is told. Learn more about us.
